There are times in life when although all looks common and unruffled on the surface of things, yet the soul finds itself in a state of darkness and confusion. In God, by His grace, we are held and sure-guided, even in our shaken places. In God, we have a place of utter safety.

Utter safety. Fiercesome battle.
Trustful rest and bloodied stand.
Reconcile my labored breathing.
Held securely in Your hand.
Common tasks, a darkness lowers.
Soul emmeshed in cloying muck.
Sucking life and light and goodness.
Joy besmirched, knife-edged, down struck.
Shifting sands erase my footprints.
Aging timbers fail and rot.
Tide recedes and vista changes.
All that was and now is not.
Utter safety. In the battle.
No vain labor in the dark.
Changes. Changing. Going forward.
Held, sure guided, to the mark.
Psalm 73
"Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You hold me by my right hand.
You will guide me with Your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.
...
"My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
