Last Friday I again taught an art lesson to a roomful of 1st through 3rd graders. We learned about primary colors, secondary colors, warm colors and cool colors. Then we created wonderful works of art!

I gave the children a palette of the three primary colors: red, yellow and blue. They then used these colors to blend an array of colors for their backgrounds. After that, using black paint on white paper, they created birch trees. After all the artwork dried, they cut out their trees, glued them to their backgrounds and…wow, what a diversity of scenery!

Some comments from my students:
“Are we going to use real art tools today?!”
“My mom doesn’t let us paint at home.”
And a comment from an 8th grader who is not in my class, “I wish I could be in your class Mrs. H!”

I’m including each of their creations in the following pictures, along with some work-in-progress pictures taken during the class time. (Thanks to my daughter, MG, for the classroom pictures!) NOTE: I found this art lesson at the deepspacesparkle.com website.
