A pause is a ceasing from something. It is a pulling over to the shoulder of the highway out of the flow of traffic. It is a stepping off the conveyor belt of today’s “to do” list. Although not a full stop, yet it is a definite break in forward momentum: a suspension of bustle and enterprise and exertion.

A pause is to cease to go forward; but it is not an idling away of minutes. It is neither shiftless, slothful or lackadaisical. A pause is an unfilled moment of time. It is an opportunity; it is a necessity; it is a gift.

It can be a break in physical activity, of incessant scrolling, of imbibing the ceaseless flow of information available to us. It can be a cessation of our continual entertainments, or distractions, or socializations or even of our speaking.

Why? Why a pause?
To think. To breathe. To wonder.
Who am I?
Where am I going?
Is there such a being as God?
What is He like?
Is He near or far, far away?
Did He create me?
Did He give me life?
Can I talk to Him?
Does He listen?

A pause is one of the richest treasures of life.
Why is that?
A pause is not a mindless consciousness, but this hiatus allows the soul and spirit to rise out from under the burning rush of the day.
A pause is a choice. And know, that though a pause is a solitary practice, you will not be alone; God is there.

“Truly my soul silently waits for God.” ~ Psalm 62
