GOD’S EXTRAVAGANCE

How extravagant and how extravagantly rich God must be. He tosses the most exquisitely made blooms to the earth like they were trash. But far from being refuse, they shout their Maker’s praise even from the paved lots and gutters of man’s making. God flagrantly strews the brightest flowers to be carpets beneath our feet. Carpets presently wilted by the sun and lightly blown away by a passing wind…and it’s place knows it no more.

What a beautiful lesson for a morning in spring! Gorgeous blooms, scattered far and wide, resting in ignominious places, brightening and giving pleasure wherever they have landed. Not borne up to a high place or a prominent, but allowing gravity and weather conditions to bring them softly to their resting places: a gutter, a parking lot…to be noticed or not…then trodden under foot or blown away. Beautiful, exquisite lovelinesses strewn underfoot to delight.
