PSALM 117
“Praise the LORD, all you Gentiles!
Laud Him, all you peoples!
For His merciful kindness is great toward us,
And the truth of the LORD endures forever.
Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 117 is all of three verses long. Three verses that mirror and repeat what has already been expressed in other psalms. Why even put a three-verse psalm in the holy catalog of Psalms? Why include this little praise in the great library of prayers which make up the book of Psalms in the Bible? Are the Psalms any richer or more complete by including it? Would there be a noticeable gap if it wasn’t included? And yet God includes this little praise. Someone raised this little expression of praise to God…and God took note. God made sure this “little praise” was included in the canon of scripture. So too with us. Our little lives are noticed by God: our little prayers, our little praises…small, but included.

“Father in Heaven, thank you. My life matters: my little, hidden, tucked-away life matters to You. You take notice of me. You see the movements of my soul: the little prayers, the little praises. You care for me and bless me. Thank you that what is deemed as small or is passed over as insignificant by others is noticed by You and counted precious and worth noting and recording.”

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Luke 12:6-7
