“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory.”
~ John 1:14
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
~ John 14:16-18
A couple of selected stanzas from George Herbert’s poem “Man”:
“My God, I heard this day
That none doth build a stately habitation,
But he that means to dwell therein.
What house more stately hath there been,
Or can be, than is man?…
…
“Since then, my God, thou hast
So brave a palace built, O dwell in it,
That it may dwell with thee at last!
Till then afford us so much wit,
That, as the world serves us, we may serve thee,
And both thy servants be.”
“Lord Jesus, thank You, You came to dwell in a house of clay…just. like. us. And presently, You have sent Your Spirit to live again in this earthly clay. This does not embarrass You; it pleases You to dwell with us. We, in our littleness, want everything perfect and posh and tidy. But You have taken up Your dwelling in less than desirable circumstances: in these houses of clay and decay: not perfect, not posh. And yet…we have been made by You for Your own delight and our God-breathed dust was intended for Your habitation.”
