“In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” ~ John 16:33

Some transitions are unlooked for and out of our control. Many or most of life’s transitions are like this; sickness or injury or death can take us at any time. This can completely turn our “secure” lives on their heads. But this is the world we live in: a world of uncertainty and vulnerability. Whether we are aging or not (and we are aging!), our lives are in jeopardy every moment. We live and continue to live by the grace of God. And His grace is personal and active in our lives…continually. Any peace or measure of stability or security we experience in this life is due to the active grace of God in our lives.

For us, security is elusive; we can chase after it and never catch it, we can grasp after it and never hold it. But the God who is gracious holds us. Our life or our security in this life is dependent upon God and His care and provision for us. Whether we are aging souls or souls newly born, our security lies in God alone. Many of life’s lessons teach us this. And in the troubles of our lives, we can be confident that He is still and always loving to us…and He is faithful.

“Truly my soul silently waits for God;
From Him comes my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation:
He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.” ~ Psalm 62:1-2

“Father, help us to walk pleasing to You through all our days, in city or in country, at work or at rest. You never called us to live our dreams. Hence we are not running out of days to make that happen. You saved us and called us…for Your own purpose…and we would seek to follow You still.”
