The following is a list of the attributes of love taken from the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians found in the New Testament section of the Bible. The list is interspersed with short, personal commentary.
LOVE does not envy
it is content within itself as itself.
not coveting what another has.
not comparing, not feeling sorry for itself.
LOVE does not parade itself
no false sense of grandness
or pride or vanity.
LOVE is not puffed up
it is not enamored with itself.
LOVE does not behave rudely,
in relation to others, it’s the others that are guarded as precious
as worth the self-control
to treat with honor, respect.
LOVE does not seek its own
it is not looking for self-advantage anywhere
– not in personal life, not in public life – it is content
LOVE is not provoked
doesn’t have an axe to grind,
a point to prove,
an argument to win
LOVE thinks no evil
love thinks – but it thinks no evil.
no payback.
no get back.
no hurt.
no harm.
does not rejoice in iniquity; but rejoices in the truth
LOVE bears all things
nothing is too hard or discouraging for love.
LOVE believes all things
it is grounded in faith.
LOVE hopes all things
it is indefatigable
LOVE endures all things
again, back to long-suffering without losing its essence
And here’s a wonderful encouragement for a successful life…
LOVE NEVER FAILS
