“The Discipline of the Box”
I gave my heart to Thee LORD
You gave to me a box.
The fit, it is quite tight, LORD
The door, it seems, it locks.
And here I am inside LORD
It’s stuffy and it’s dark.
Will you make all things right LORD?
Now to my prayer give hark?
~~~
But silence meets my cry LORD
And I desire escape
Have my prayers missed the mark LORD?
Why do you seem to wait?
So then I look within LORD
My heart must not be right.
And to my little box, LORD
Is added holy fright.
~~~
I make my best resolves LORD
Don’t leave me to my fate
Sheer panic drives my pleading
I’m in an awful state.
Darkness, without, within, LORD
My lack I cannot fill.
I’ve played out all my cards, LORD
And yet I’m captive still.
~~~
I gave my heart to Thee LORD
You gave to me a box
And there is room for Thee LORD
No matter, dark or locks.
I sit, the fight now ends LORD
I rest in peace, I’m free
This box, it is Thy will LORD
Thy perfect will for me.
