(Psalm 19 is one of my favorite psalms. This psalm has two distinct sections. The first section reveals the fact that the created heavens surrounding the earth are powerfully speaking of God’s existence and glory. This psalm bids us to look up and to hear the voice of the skies. The second section explores the effects of God’s word on the soul of a man.)

The sun comes forth rejoicing
glad to run its race
Through heavens vast and starry
Through circles hung in space
Radiant, radiating
It’s heat leaves naught untouched
And yet, Thy law, O living Lord
is more than sun to us.

It shines in every recess
of heart, and thought, and will
Reviving souls that languish
Still shining through, until
it works in fools a wisdom,
it gives to mourners joy
And light enough to fill them
with fear, the clean employ.

And then leaps up in surges
desires to answer Thine
A faculty for tasting
the sweetness of the wine.
A humbled adoration
for words which keep the soul
And trustful consecration
of mouth and heart, Thy scroll.
