The inspiration and setting of this poem can be found in the Gospel of John, chapter 21 where after He had risen from the dead, Jesus meets His fishermen and invites them to come to breakfast.
BREAKFAST
Lord,
I see,
I see Thee
standing.
Standing,
waiting
on the shore
And
O Lord
You’ve spread
a table
that I
might eat
with Thee
once more.
Lord,
I hear,
I hear Thee
calling,
“Children,
have you
any fish?”
And
O Lord
my nets
are empty…
Lord,
I know,
I know
Thy power.
Power to
draw,
to fill,
to feed.
And
O Lord
I come
to breakfast
You have
met
my
deepest
need.
