I am five months into my blogging experiment/experience. And I have had to ask myself again, “Why am I blogging?” It is not “the” priority of my life and day; but I do want to blog: to record the happenings of my days and life as a sort of “living history” my family can enjoy.
So who is my audience? Ah, yes – my family! They are my audience. Through the last few months, I usually ask this question daily, “Can I read you today’s post?” If I forget to share for a day or two, someone will remind me, and we sit down together to “catch up” on the neglected postings. Most recently, I am reading the daily post at the dinner table. I’m happy to report that my posts are well-received. My family whoop! or laugh or smile or point fingers according to the content and who may be the featured family member in the day’s post. And that causes me to smile.
This morning my 13-year-old told me that she was eager to do some consistent writing of her own. She explained herself this way, “Mama, reading your blog everyday, I’m beginning to understand how to write. And I think I’m ready to go for it!” This causes me to smile widely and smirk just a little. Who knew? Blogging, which is a great recreation for me, is not only a means of recording my family’s daily growth and living, it is not only extrememly entertaining to them (who doesn’t like to read about themselves!), but it’s a tool for teaching and encouraging and inspiring a daughter (and possibly – two daughters) to write. Priceless.
