We have four chickens, which I will introduce at a later post. But the mystery of the day surfaced when I went outside to check the nest for eggs. The nest is hidden behind some bushes against the back of the house. And I did find the eggs: that is, two eggs and a smooth dark-colored stone. I thought one of my daughters was pulling a prank; but both my girls denied any knowledge of this oddity. Hmmmmmm. Honestly, this is very strange and I haven’t quite worked it out.

On another note, our monarch caterpillars are five days old and very handsome. Notice the heart-shaped hole eaten into the leaf.
